About Us

Fire Mountain Scout Camp is a very special place to so many. The over 600 acres of Scouting Adventure found at Fire Mountain has its roots in the need of the Evergreen Area Council in the early 1970’s to find a new home for their Scout Camp operations. The Evergreen Area Council had a long history of building camps and programs to have the property slowly encroached on by the growing population of Snhomish County. So in 1971 the Council found a piece of farm land in Skagit County, purchased it and started to make it their new Scouting home. Beside program buildings, water treatment and more being needed a lake was dug from one the farms pasture areas with the help of the US Army Corps of Engineers and US Navy Sea Bees.

In 1972 Fire Mountain Scout Reservation opened for its first summer of operation. As the focus of the camp changed to operating a single program at a time the term reservation was slowly changed to Scout Camp.

In the early 1990’s the Evergreen and Mount Baker Area Councils merged. This lead to TWO mountains, Fire and Black Mountain Scout Camps operating in the council. Black Mountain closed in 2013 and was sold in 2014 and its legacy was added to those that had come before Fire Mountian in the Evergreen Area Council.

The Steering Committee is co-chaired by the Council VP of Outdoor Program and VP of Properties. Selected by the Fire Mountain Key 3 these volunteers produced the plans, outlines and direction that is then either approved under the authority of the Vice Presidents or presented by them to the Council Board.

Permanent Staff

Under the leadership of the Camp Director, Fire Mountain has a small dedicated year round staff who live and work on site. These “permanent staff” are called that because they don’t come and go with the seasons. While no staff member is truly permanent these staff leave their mark with the month in month out work they do to make Fire Mountain great!
