Our Mission

The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Scout Oath

On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Serving Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan Counties and Whidbey Island

The North Cascades District has a rich history of Scouting and is proud to serve the families of four counties. The peoples of these counties are diverse from the Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island to the lumber jacks of Skagit Valley. We serve the families of the dairy farms of Lynden to the fishing community of Friday Harbor. Our district takes its name from the mighty mountains that contain the most rugged national park in our state. For those of us that call the North Cascades home there is no where better place to raise a family, grow up, or be a SCOUT!

District Scouts in Action

Two of our district Scouts BSA Troops provided public service during 2025 Ski to Sea

Troop 4027 kept canoes safe overnight at Riverside Park in Everson

In a patch of grass at Riverside Park, a handful of boys helped place canoes upside down next to each other. The work started steadily but picked up in the late afternoon as Ski to Sea team members offloaded canoes to be watched overnight.

The boys, members of Scout Troop 4027 who range in age from 11 to 17, pitched tents among the 400 canoes and spent the night sleeping lightly, their ears pricked for any kind of noise that could signal trouble.

Scouts have been sleeping overnight in Riverside Park the Saturday before Ski to Sea for the last 40 years.

Troop 4019 watches Kayaks at Zuanich Park in Bellingham

Troop 4019 provides a similar service for racers’ Kayaks at Zuanich Park starting Saturday afternoon.
